Tower of God is a South Korean manhwa series that is helmed by SIU as writer and illustrator. The series debuted with its first release on June 30, 2010, and continues to this very day. Since its release, it has been published in Naver Webtoon, the webtoon platform belonging to Naver Corporation.
Unlike most traditional manga and manhwa, Tower of God has been released solely as a webtoon. From July of 2014, the webtoon also got an English translation, courtesy of Line Webtoon. Currently, the series has 500 episodes, which have been segregated into 3 seasons.
The Premise of the Series
The series progresses through the eyes of a boy named Twenty-Fifth Bam, who is the main protagonist. Bam has spent the vast majority of his life trapped under a strange and mysterious tower. His only source of companionship comes in the form of Rachel, his close friend. One day, however, Rachel enters the tower, leaving Bam alone and devastated.
The tower itself is a very mysterious figure, which is suffused with an element called Shinsu, that has seemingly magical properties, and increases in its concentration as one keeps ascending to the higher floors of the tower. The tower is also enclosed and hosts multiple environments. It also happens to be excessively vast, with the author claiming each floor to roughly be the size of North America.
Bam remains adamant about seeing Rachel again and hence succeeds in opening the door that leads to the tower. Throughout his journey through the tower, he meets multiple characters who end up being allies to him in his quest. Whether or not he succeeds in his endeavors to meet Rachel again is what forms the remainder of the story.
Why Was There Uncertainty Regarding the Last Few Releases?
Fans weren’t sure whether or not the last few releases, starting from Chapter 486 to be specific, would end up being published and when, as the series went on an indefinite hiatus after the release of Chapter 485 on June 28, 2020, owing to the creator’s health problems. There was a lot of anticipation surrounding its return as fans were eager to know how the story would progress. Fortunately enough for fans, the series returned on May 16, 2021, with five chapters hitting the Naver website.
Where Can One Read the Series?
The series can be found in its native language on Naver Webtoon’s official website. For those wishing to read it in English, the website Webtoons.com contains all of the releases in English, however, they would have to wait a little longer than usual as the most recent chapters take a while before being released on the website in English. These are the two most trusted and legitimate sources for viewers to read the manhwa from.
