Michael King Jr., or Martin Luther King Jr. was an American Baptist minister and leader. He was the spokesperson as well as the leader of the American civil rights movement, that took place in 1955. He was assassinated in 1968. He was the son of Martin Luther King Sr.
He was born on 15th January 1929 in Georgia. He read bible since his childhood and his grandmother, too, recited children stories from bible to him and his brother. Martin was inspired by Christianity and worked on its principles. He faced discrimination on the basis of race since childhood and he saw his father stood against this. He too in later years worked against these discriminations.
Martin Luther was forced to join the blacks school as he was a black himself and the whites couldn’t accept him with them. He enrolled himself in Crozer Theological Seminar in Pennsylvania. His father supported his decision to continue his education. In the year 1951, he studied systematic theology in Boston University. He attended philosophy classes at Harvard University.
While studying in Boston University, he started dating a southern girl, Coretta Scott, which was suggested to him by one of his Atlanta friend, Mary Powell. Scott and Martin married on 18th June 1953 in the lawn of Scott’s parent’s house. They had four children. Scott was an activist but Martin limited her role in movements and expected her to be a simple housewife.
